Mindset

by Carol Dweck

Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success—but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset.  She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment, but may actually jeopardize success.  I wish I knew about this when my kids were younger…  sorry kids if I messed you up in any way!

This book goes on the bookshelf because the subject matter is important to me and my work.  I’m not sure I’d recommend reading it if your time is limited. There are great book summaries available and/or you can listen to her TEDtalk and get the gist of the book.

If you parent a small child, grasping this concept will save your child a lot of pain in adulthood. (just sayin!)
